"Miles Away" is a large scale grand piece of artwork. There are a lot of elements in the foreground which draw your eye in: the space platform, the emerging planets (and their individual moons), the two domes housing some manner of greenery gives us some sense of grounding and earthly connection. The genius comes with the human character; all things seem alien until we have some sense of human connection with the unknown: a shadowed anonymous girl facing away and opening up her arms to the contrasting vast vertical height of space...our eyes just don't look up in this piece but our whole head tilts upwards like there is something actually 'up' there...we feel she is allowing that space to come and greet her like friends in open arms. Still, others may feel she is longing for something else.... 'what's out there? How far is away is my love? Are we alone in the universe?' Nobody knows what she is doing, what she wants or what she longs for...it's the mystery of space.
Wow I really like it I agree with the critique, especially with the silhouette of the girl. Makes us ponder a lot of questions about the universe and more. I also like the change of colors on the big planet from blue to red. Looks like it's on fire or having a lot of volcanic eruptions.
